Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton will reprise Batman roles in ‘The Flash’ movie

Not one Batman, but two will make substantial appearances in the upcoming DC movie, The Flash.

In an exclusive article from Vanity Fair Affleck’s Caped Crusader will appear along with Michael Keaton’s in the upcoming movie, which explores a multiverse of DC Comics heroes.

The Flash, set to be released in 2022, stars Ezra Miller reprising his Justice League role in a solo film that explores DC’s Flashpoint comic series. As part of Barry Allen aka The Flash’s journey in the film, he’ll be thrown into parallel dimensions where he’ll cross paths with quite a few familiar faces from the DC universe.

One of those faces will be Affleck’s Batman from the most recent go of the franchise. Another will be the Batman of the 1989 film played by Keaton. Both have been teased to have “substantial” roles in the film.

The director Andy Muschietti had a lot to say about the new film as well as these high profile cameos, specifically about Affleck he said, “His Batman has a dichotomy that is very strong, which is his masculinity—because of the way he looks, and the imposing figure that he has, and his jawline —but he’s also very vulnerable. He knows how to deliver from the inside out, that vulnerability. He just needs a story that allows him to bring that contrast, that balance.”

“He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before,” the director added. “It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.”

All in all, one thing that is for sure, this announcement will have hardcore Batman fans talking and speculating about what what the future may look like for in infamous “Batfleck”.

The Flash bolts into theaters in 2022.
