All eyes have been on speculations of a Friends reunion and it’s finally been officially announced to premiere in May on HBO Max!
We’ve previously reported the cast of Friends was nearing a deal to reunite for a special at HBO Max.
Now it’s official, according to TV Line the full cast of Friends has signed on an unscripted reunion special on HBO Max which is set to premiere in May. Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer will all be returning to Friends original soundstage, Stage 24 at the Warner Bros. Studio lot.
The special will be a celebration of the series and all of the cast members will executive-produce alongside original series executive producers Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane. Ben Winston, of The Late Late Show With James Corden, will be directing the reunion special.
CCO of HBO Max Kevin Reilly commented on the news saying, “Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library.”
“I became aware of Friends when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends – and audiences – gathered together in real-time, and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans,” Reilly added.
Each of the six stars will reportedly be paid around $3-$4 million range for the reunion special, which would make the cost of all the cast appearing around $18-$24 million! It’s obvious that HBO Max is banking on the continued appeal of Friends and fans desire to see the cast all together again.
