Gina Carano will not be reprising her role of Cara Dune in the upcoming seasons of The Mandalorian.
Over the past few months the actress has been more and more vocal regarding her controversial viewpoint on current events. It has all come to a head when recent social media posts shared by Carano which compared today’s American politics to Nazi Germany, mocking the use of masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and shared misinformation about voter fraud, using her celebrity to attempt to gain traction online.
On Tuesday, Lucasfilm issued a statement distancing the themselves from Carano and condemning her posts. “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
Since the news is so fresh, there hasn’t been any word on what Lucasfilm plans to do moving forward after parting ways with Carano.
Cara Dune has been a staple of The Mandalorian series in both seasons, but there has not been any word of the studio recasting the character yet. If they did decide to go this route, they would also save the Cara Dune spin off show for Disney+ called Rangers of the New Republic which was announced this past December.
