HBO Max releases a trailer for first original movie, ‘An American Pickle’

Seth Rogen is the dual role star of HBO Max’s original movie An American Pickle.

This is the first original movie that the new streaming platform will release. The dark comedy is directed by Rogen’s friend and collaborator, Brandon Trost. The film is based on a short story titled Sell Out by Simon Rich, who also is the writer of the movie.

In the first trailer we meet Herschel Greenbaum, played by Seth Rogen, a struggling ditch digger who has dreams of leaving his home country with his wife (played by Sarah Snook) to pursue the American dream. In America, he gets a job at a pickle factory but a freak accident causes Herschel to fall into a vat of pickles which leaves him mysteriously preserved in the brine for 100 years.

Herschel wakes from his brine induced preservation in present day 2020. His whole family is obviously gone after 100 years, but he finds that he has a great-grandson still living in the city named Ben Greenbaum, who is also played by Rogen. We find Rogen’s characters meeting and learning about each other while each try to understand the other’s culture, religion, family values, and grief.

An American Pickle will be on HBO Max August 6th.
