HBO Max has given fans their first peek at Zack Snyder’s version of Justice League, which gives us a look at Diana and Darkseid.
The film — a sequel to 2016’s Batman v Superman — will premiere exclusively on HBO Max in 2021.
The short teaser opens with Diana looking in fear and horror at an ancient piece of art that we come to realize is Darkseid.
As she slowly approaches it, dialogue spoken by Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor at the end of Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman plays over the clip.
The supervillain warns major threat coming to Earth after the death of Superman, followed by a snippet of a scene of Darkseid himself, wreathed in fire.

“Thanks to the efforts of a lot people, we’re excited to bring fans this highly anticipated version of Justice League,” said Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group. “This feels like the right time to share Zack’s story, and HBO Max is the perfect platform for it. We’re glad the creative planets aligned, allowing us to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO Max will debut the project in 2021 — possibly in a four-hour director’s cut or in six TV-style “chapters” — as the director gets the gang back together with the original postproduction crew to score, cut and finish visual effects.
In a statement about his version of the film, Zack Snyder said that he wanted to “thank HBO Max and Warner Brothers for this brave gesture of supporting artists and allowing their true visions to be realized. Also a special thank you to all of those involved in the SnyderCut movement for making this a reality.”
Though Warner Bros. hasn’t officially confirmed it, it seems safe to assume that DC’s major virtual fan event in August, DC FanDome, will drop an official trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
The director confirmed that there will be more to come from him and the film at the event.
