Disney’s Honey, I Shrunk the Kids continuation has officially announced that franchise Rick Moranis is officially on board for starring Josh Gad!

In December, talks of a Disney reboot of the hit 90s family comedy, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids began to bubble up, exciting fans with the prospect that original director Joe Johnston would return with Frozen star Josh Gad in a lead role.

Now it looks like not only will we be getting that reboot, but its looks like Rick Moranis will be reprising his role as scientist and father Wayne Szalinski.

According to Deadline, Moranis has officially signed on to star opposite Gad in what is now being referred to as a Honey, I Shrunk the Kids sequel.

Fans of the original film are excited to see the return of Rick Moranis’, none more so than Moranis’ soon-to-be costar Josh Gad.

Shortly after news broke, Gad tweeted out his excitement over getting to work with Moranis on Shrunk.

“To say it is a dream come true to once again see #RickMoranis on the big screen is the understatement of the decade. But to say, I get an up seat view of him returning to play one of his most iconic roles is the understatement of the Century,” tweeted Gad. “Welcome back hero!”

Honey I Shrunk the Kids first premiered in theaters in 1992. The action family film starred Rick Moranis as Wayne Szalinski — a scientist and father whose children accidentally end up shrinking themselves down to the size of bugs after accidentally coming into contact with one of their dad’s experiments.

Titled Shrunk, the sequel will reportedly make a big screen debut rather than making its way to the small screen on Disney+. The sequel film will feature Wayne’s son, played by Josh Gad, following in his father’s footsteps as an aspiring scientist. Things get a bit more complicated however, when just like his father, he accidentally shrinks the kids.

Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect to see Shrunk hit the big screen.
