Lana Condor calls out President Trump for calling COVID-19 the ‘Chinese Virus’

Racial tensions have only increased with the spread of COVID-19, and Asian-American actress Lana Condor is not happy with President Trump’s recent words.

The coronavirus has not only caused issues in the world’s healthcare and economy, but it’s also caused heightened Xenophobia. An issue that isn’t helped by the United States President who has taken to calling COVID-19 the “Chinese Virus.”

It’s no surprise that this is troubling to X-Men: Apocalpyse and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before actress Condor who was born in Vietnam before moving to America after being adopted.

Condor took to Twitter to address the issue saying:

“You have no idea the ramifications your racist words and actions have on the Asian-American community. You simply cannot even fathom the danger you are putting our community in. How dare you. You should be ashamed of yourself. You call yourself a leader? You know what leaders do? They LEAD by setting good examples and ACTION. Something we’ve yet to see you do. You need to take notes on Chinese billionaire Jack Ma who is ACTUALLY leading — by donating tests and millions of masks to AMERICA because you haven’t. Please. Be Better. So we aren’t afraid to leave our house in fear someone will verbally or physically abuse us because of your xenophobia.”

Although Trump and the White House have tried to explain the term by saying it’s common to name a virus after a place, it doesn’t explain why he would go off from the widely used names for the virus. Both COVID-19 and coronavirus are correct and would work much better.
