Michael Strahan’s departure from Live! left many wondering what really happened, and now he’s setting the story straight.
In an interview with Time Magazine, Strahan highlighted his career move from playing for the New York Giants as a defensive lineman to working in the entertainment industry.
Although the loveable athlete made a relatively successful transition in careers, it wasn’t without a certain amount of drama he wasn’t expecting behind the scenes.
Many were surprised about his sudden exit from Live! With Kelly and Michael but Strahan didn’t comment on the issue at the time. However, he’s opened up more now about the issues he’s faced working in television.
“I’ve done things where I went in with team concepts, and I got there and realized it’s not about team,” Strahan commented. “It’s selfish, and I don’t operate well under that.”
Though he stated that he learned a lot from both Kelly Ripa and executive producer Michael Gelman there just came a time when it was time to leave the show. “Certain things that were going on behind the scenes just caught up,” Strahan revealed.
He also hinted at some displeasure on how the whole situation was dealt with at the time. Saying that it could have been handled better, and he didn’t ask for the job at Good Morning America. But it seems like it’s all in that past and that Strahan has moved on from the situation, “People who should have handled it better have all apologized, but a lot of the damage had already been done.”
Strahan also revealed that he did try to form a working bond with Ripa on the show. He’d requested having meetings ever few weeks and for a while they did but then Kelly wanted to stop. Still, Strahan is adamant that he has a lot of respect for her and how well she is at her job.
Since then Strahan has continued to have success working as a host on Good Morning America, his daytime talk show Strahan, Sara & Keke and the gameshow $100,000 Pyramid.
