The first trailer for Netflix’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things is here and it is incredibly intriguing.

The film, which is based off of Iain Reid’s best selling novel, I’m Thinking of Ending Things, has been adapted for the screen by writer and director Charlie Kaufman, who is an Academy Award winner for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Cindy (Jessie Buckley) and her boyfriend Jake (Jesse Plemons) are on their way to meet his parents for the first time on their family farm. The trailer shows us pretty much right off the bat that Cindy seems to be having some reservations about her boyfriend which are amplified with every passing moment they are with his parents.

The thriller’s cast rounds itself out with David Thewlis paying Jake’s father, and Toni Collette playing Jake’s mother. You know a project has to be incredible when Toni Collette has joined the cast.

The trailer does an amazing job of building suspense similar to Get Out, by showing you quick flashes of the very strange moments that happen on what should be a relatively normal meeting of the parents. Watch the trailer below:

Here is the synopsis released by Netflix for the thriller:

Despite second thoughts about their relationship, a young woman (Jessie Buckley) takes a road trip with her new boyfriend (Jesse Plemons) to his family farm. Trapped at the farm during a snowstorm with Jake’s mother (Toni Collette) and father (David Thewlis), the young woman begins to question the nature of everything she knew or understood about her boyfriend, herself, and the world. An exploration of regret, longing and the fragility of the human spirit, I’M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS is directed and written by Academy Award winner Charlie Kaufman (ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND). Inspired by Iain Reid’s bestselling namesake novel.

I’m Thinking of Ending Things will arrive on Netflix September 4, 2020.
