Lady Wistledown will be back to spread the hot gossip in another season of Bridgerton.
Netflix announced that Bridgerton has officially been renewed for season 2, which fans have speculated was a sure thing as its popularity has grown since it was released in December.
The series is produced by Shondaland in partnership with Netflix and is based on a series of romance novels by Julia Quinn. It follows the wealthy Bridgerton family in Regency England as the eight siblings each adventure through London’s cutthroat marriage market and societal expectations.
Season 1 made its grand entrance focusing on first Bridgerton daughter, Daphne played by Phoebe Dyvenor, and her romance with Simon, the Duke of Hastings played by Regé-Jean Page. While it centered around these two, the first season also introduced viewers to the rest of the Bridgerton family, and other families with children in the marriage scene. Most notably it introduced the anonymous town gossip and narrator Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews).
Fittingly, the announcement of the second season came from Lady Whistledown and teases that Anthony Bridgerton played by Jonathan Bailey, the first born Bridgerton, “intends to dominate the social season” and that she’ll be at the ready to “report on any and all of his romantic activities.”
That tracks with speculation that season 2, which is suspected to follow the second book in the series, The Viscount Who Loved Me, might focus on Anthony and his romance with a new character, Kate Sheffield.
