Saying mothers and daughters have their own brand of drama is an understatement if you are talking about Glenn Close and Amy Adams’ relationship in Hillbilly Elegy.
The first trailer has arrived for Ron Howard’s new film starring Amy Adams and Glenn Close, Hillbilly Elegy.
The story focuses on a working-class family in the Appalachian region of the United States. A mother and daughter who struggle with finding work and raising their multi-generational family. The movie is told from the perspective of Adams’ character’s son, who managed to get out of the family rut and is Yale graduate, but is forced to return to his hometown.
It is based on the New York Times best-selling memoir Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis, written by J.D. Vance. He wrote about the Appalachian values of his very own family and growing up in Middletown, Ohio, as part of a low-income family.

There is already a mass of Oscar buzz in the air for both Close and Adams. Both are no stranger to being a nominee, Close has nabbed 7 in the past and Adams has 6 nominations. However, neither have taken home the trophy. From the trailer alone it would be incredibly shocking if both of them weren’t nominated again; in turn at least one of them has a good chance at taking the title this awards season.
The rest of the cast includes Gabriel Basso, Haley Bennett, Freida Pinto, Bo Hopkins and Owen Asztalos. Vanessa Taylor, who is the Oscar-nominated screenwriter for Shape of Water, penned the script. Brian Grazer, Howard and Karen Lunder are producing for Imagine Entertainment. The project itself has been ongoing since the bidding war for the adaptation started back in 2017.
Hillbilly Elegy will be released on Netflix and in select theaters on November 24th.
