Lena Dunham and Lily Collins are gearing up to bring the 90’s toy, Polly Pocket to the big screen.
Polly Pocket will be joining the live-action treatment inspired by a toy on the big screen. In the past there have been web series and television shows inspired by the pocket sized toys, but this will be the first live-action film. It will join the likes of Battleship, The Lego Movie, Transformers, and more in the childhood-game-turned-movie genre.
The movie has already found its star in television vet Lily Collins, who will take on the titular role as the tiny doll. Also announced was that Girls alum, Lena Dunham, has signed on as the writer and director of the movie.
Collins, in her statement announcing her involvement with the Polly Pocket movie, said: “As a child who was obsessed with Polly Pocket, this is a real dream come true and I can’t wait to bring these tiny toys to the big screen.”
Dunham, like Collins, spoke of her love for the toys as a child, adding that the tiny toys, “Polly gave me a tiny world of magic and autonomy to narrate, so it’s pretty poetic to be tackling these same ideas now as a director collaborating with the brilliant Lily Collins, Robbie Brenner, Mattel and MGM,” said Dunham. “I’m so thrilled to bring to bear both my love of this historic property and also my deep-seated belief that young women need smart playful films that speak to them without condescension.”
Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect to see Polly Pocket movie hit the big screen.
