Meryl Streep shows up and shows out in the first look photos for the upcoming Netflix Original Movie, Prom!
On Wednesday, Netflix revealed several promotional photos from Ryan Murphy’s adaptation of the popular Broadway production Prom, starring Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Kerry Washington, Andrew Rannells, and James Corden.
Chad Beguelin and Bob Martin, who also wrote the original 2016 stage production have adapted the story for the screen. It’s the story of a queer teenager, Emma played by Jo Ellen Pellman, whose struggle with homophobia at school captures the attention of a fading Broadway quartet who want to find a charity case to boost their careers.
Streep leads as Dee Dee, a Tony Award-winning actress who, alongside her partner (Corden) stars in a musical about Eleanor Roosevelt. Teaming up with veteran showgirl Angie (Kidman) and another actor, Trent (Rannells), the quartet searches for a charity and ends up traveling to a small-town in Indiana to help Emma and her girlfriend (Ariana DeBose) fight their high school’s homophobic decision banning them from attending their senior prom as a couple.
Washington plays DeBose’s mother in the film. Others in the star studded movie musical are Keegan-Michael Key, Mary Kay Place, and Tracey Ullman.
Prom hits Netflix on December 11.
