Selena Gomez appeared on Miley Cyrus’ Instagram Live talk show Bright Minded to talk about recently being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Both Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus have been open about their mental health in the past, and on a recent episode of Bright Minded the singers got even more personal. Gomez revealed on the show that she had recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
“Recently, I went to one of the best mental hospitals in the world, but definitely in America, McLean’s Hospital, and I discussed that after years of going through a lot of different things, I realized that I was bipolar,” Gomez said on the IGTV show. “And so, when I got to know more information, it actually helps me. It doesn’t scare me once I know it. And I think people get scared of that, right?”
The singer also discussed how learning more about it has actually helped her. Gomez explained it through a memory as a child saying, “When I was younger, I was scared of thunderstorms, and my mom bought me all these different books on thunderstorms. She said, ‘the more that you educate yourself on this, the more that you’re not going to be afraid.’ And it completely worked.”
The two singers also talked about what life has been like during social isolation while the coronavirus pandemic continues to take its toll on society. Gomez also talked about her Grandparents, the importance of continued communication with people, and donating sales from her merch to help hospitals during the crisis.
Besides Selena Gomez, Elton John, Jimmy Fallon, and Kerry Washington also appeared on Cyrus’ Bright Minded episode 15 which premiered on Friday, April, 3. Cyrus called the episode the finale but also said that, “this is not for sure the finale episode,” and then went on to call it a hiatus.
