The pop culture war every 90’s kid remembers will be re-told in the new documentary Console Wars.

Console Wars is an Official Selection of the 2020 SXSW Film Festival. The documentary takes viewers back to 1990 when Sega, gathered a team to break out of the arcade industry and into the and take on the greatest video game company in the world, Nintendo, in the home sector.
The documentary is being marketed as a deep dive into the “once-in-a-lifetime, no-holds-barred conflict that pit brother against brother, kids against grown-ups, Sonic against Mario, and American capitalism against centuries-old Japanese tradition.”
It features many interviews of first hand accounts from those at both Nintendo and Sega who were in the thick of the new home entertainment craze that was gripping the world. As well as how the U.S. Congress got involved.
Console Wars is produced and directed by Jonah Tulis and Blake J. Harris, author of the bestselling book of the same name. The executive producers include Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen.
I has also been announced that CBS All Access has greenlit a limited series based on Console Wars. Mike Rosolio is set to write with Jordan Vogt-Roberts attached to direct. While the series is set to be streamed on CBS All Access, no release date or cast has yet been announced.
Console Wars premieres on CBS All Access September 23.
