According to IFPI Taylor Swift is the top-selling Global Recording Artists of 2019, her second time in the top spot!
After releasing her seventh studio album, Lover, Taylor Swift has been named the world’s best-selling recording artist of 2019 by IFPI. This is the second time that the singer has earned the title, 2014 was the last time that she won the award.
Lover debuted at number one in over ten countries and reached three million album-equivalent sales worldwide by the end of its first week on sale. Swift released three singers from the album in 2019, “ME!”, “You Need To Calm Down”, and “Lover”.
Frances Moore, chief executive of IFPI, said: “Taylor Swift is the epitome of a truly global star. She continues to grow as an artist and maintains an incredibly strong connection with her fanbase, whilst continuing to evolve her sound with each album. It is a pleasure to be able to present her with the Global Recording Artist of the Year award for the second time.”
IFPI’s Top 10 Global Recording Artists of 2019 also includes two legacy acts, Queen and The Beatles. Along with international stars like Ed Sheeran and BTS.
Moore commented on the diversity seen on the Top 10 saying, “This range demonstrates how people’s love of music can be continually ignited by new and diverse artists and yet endures across decades. I congratulate all the artists in the chart.”
Previous winners of the award include Drake (2018, 2016), Ed Sheeran (2017), Adele (2015), and One Direction (2013).
IFPI’s Global Recording Artist of the Year Award reflects an artist’s success worldwide across digital and physical music formats. Including streaming services, digital album sales, physical album sales, and singles sales.
