Hartley Sawyer, who played Ralph Dibney on The CW’s The Flash for three years, has been fired after his racist, homophobic and misogynistic tweets resurfaced online.

Though Hartley Sawyer’s Twitter account has now been deleted, screenshots of his offensive Tweets have recently been circulating online, most notably when actress Skai Jackson tweeted out a collection of screenshots of his now-deleted tweets. The tweets from The Flash actor featured racist, homophobic and sexist language.

Though his Twitter account has since been deleted, the actor recently posted an apology on his Instagram account, saying that he was “ashamed I was capable of these really horrible attempts to get attention at that time. I regret them deeply. This was not acceptable behavior. These were words I threw out at the time with no thought or recognition of the harm my words could do, and now have done today.”

Sawyer joined The Flash in 2017 as Ralph Dibny, also known as The Elongated Man. Though his character was initially a recurring part, he was eventually upped to a series regular on The Flash in 2018.

According to a joint statement given to Deadline from Warner Bros. TV, The CW, Berlanti Productions and executive producer Eric Wallace: “Hartley Sawyer will not be returning for Season 7 of The Flash. In regards to Mr. Sawyer’s posts on social media, we do not tolerate derogatory remarks that target any race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation. Such remarks are antithetical to our values and policies, which strive and evolve to promote a safe, inclusive and productive environment for our workforce.”

The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace has likewise tweeted out a separate statement, in which he said that, “Concerning [Hartley Sawyer’s] social media tweets, they broke my heart and made me mad as hell. And they’re indicative of the larger problem in our country.”
