With an old house, creepy basements, floating bodies, and creepy dolls, The Haunting of Bly Manor is sure to scare this October.
This morning Netflix released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming season of The Haunting of Bly Manor. This is the new ghost story from the creators of the hit series The Haunting of Hill House from 2018.
This season is based on the 1898 novel The Turn of the Screw by Henry James with other inspiration coming from his supernatural short stories “The Jolly Corner” and “The Romance of Certain Old Clothes.”
Mike Flanagan returns as the show’s creator with Trevor Macy as producer for this next chapter of The Haunting anthology series. The Haunting of Bly Manor will be nine episodes and is set in 1980s England. After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry Wingrave hires a young American nanny to care for his orphaned niece and nephew who live in Bly Manor. But dead doesn’t mean gone at Bly Manor, with centuries of dark secrets of love and loss just waiting to be unearthed.
Returning cast for the new season are Henry Thomas, Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and Kate Siegel; they are joined by Rahul Kohli, Tahirah Sharif, Amelie Bea Smith, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Amelia Eve, and T’Nia Miller.
A part of the original series that fans loved was finding all of the hidden ghosts throughout the series. That aspect is here to stay for Bly Manor said Flanagan: “The hidden ghosts in the first season turned out to be one of my favorite things to play with on set. The audience seemed to really like them. I loved watching people double back and try to find more of them. It encourages repeat viewing.”
In Hill House the ghosts were there to terrorize but in Bly Manor, these ghosts are part of the puzzle. “This season we wanted our hidden elements to tell their own story. And very much unlike the first season, they’re actually going to be explained. By the end of the season, you’re going to know who they are and why they’re there,” he said.
The Haunting of Bly Manor will be available only on Netflix October 9, 2020.
