Even though the Hawkeye tv series is a long ways away from premiering, it is already getting spinoff treatment from Disney+.
According to Variety, the streamer is planning a spinoff series centered around the character Echo, who is a deaf Native American super hero. In the role of Maya Lopez, aka Echo, will be new comer Alaqua Cox, reprising her role from the upcoming Hawkeye mini series.
Echo has the ability to copy an opponents movements perfectly making her an exceptional fighter. In the Marvel comics, Echo crosses paths with characters like Moon Knight, which is also in development for a series on Disney+; she also runs into the Avengers from time to time. Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen are rumored to write and executive produce the spinoff and Marvel Studios will produce.
For what we know of the Hawkeye series is that Jeremy Renner will step back into the expert archer role in Hawkeye alongside Hailee Steinfeld, who is playing Kate Bishop, who in the comics is Hawkeye’s protege. Like the rest of the Disney+ series it will pick up after the events of Avengers: Endgame. They will be joined by Vera Farmiga and Florence Pugh. Farmiga will be Eleanor Bishop, Kate’s mother, and Pugh will be reprising her role from the upcoming Black Widow film.
Other Marvel shows currently in development over at Disney+ include Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Moon Knight, What If?, Secret Invasion, Ironheart, Armor Wars, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and an untitled Wakanda series.
