Baby Yoda is back with Mando at their side!
Fans have been clamoring for news of when season 2 of The Mandalorian will begin since it was announced that production was able to wrap only days before the pandemic caused everything to shut down. This morning The Mandalorian‘s official Twitter account posted the announcement.

The second season’s cast has the return of stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, and Carl Weathers. Several other actors have been reportedly cast in key roles, though Disney has been tight lipped about their involvement, such as Rosario Dawson as The Clone Wars fan-favorite Ahsoka Tano. Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett in the prequels, has signed on for what fans theorize to be some version of the bounty hunter Boba Fett. There’s also been reports that Michael Biehn (The Terminator), Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) and Timothy Olyphant (Justified) are on board as well. Of course, the return of iconic Baby Yoda, a.k.a. The Child is also confirmed.
The show’s first season performed so well that The Mandalorian recently received nominations for 15 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series. Not bad for Disney+’s first year eligible for awards.
Since the shut down, the show’s post-production efforts had to be evaluated on the safest way to maintain social distancing, while not falling behind on the incredibly secret but labor-intensive effects and editing work that needed to be done.
Most traditional broadcast networks with fall television premieres begin shooting in the summer in preparation for the fall line up. The majority of those shows have yet to begin or have just begun production with no word on when the first episodes will air. This sets Disney+ in a good place for The Mandalorian to gain new viewers, and for the streamer to gain new subscribers this fall. Since it is one of the few shows with a traditional fall premiere to have finished production, they aren’t going to have to compete with other series to get eyes on their series.
Season 2 of The Mandalorian will premiere on October 30th only on Disney+.
