The past catches up to Vin Diesel in the ‘Fast and Furious 9’ trailer

The Fast and Furious 9 trailer is here, filled with fast cars, frenetic pacing and physics-defying stunts.

When the Fast and Furious franchise first began nearly 20 years ago in 2001, Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto was a man who lived his life one quarter mile at a time.

However, that’s no longer the case, as we see in the new trailer for Fast and Furious 9, which shows us that Dom is now a committed family man and father, content to live a quiet life fixing cars and taking care of his son, Brian, and loving his wife Letty.

However, the quiet life doesn’t last for long, as the trailer shows that — as Dom says — no matter how fast you are, you can’t outrun your past.

What does he mean by this? You’ll have to watch the brand new Fast and Furious 9 trailer to find out. Check it out below!

As we see from the trailer, Dom’s past catches up to him a major way — by bringing his long lost and heretofore unmentioned younger brother, who is a master thief, assassin, and high-performance driver being set on a path to kill his brother by former Fast and Furious antagonist Cipher, played by Charlize Theron.

A second, more pleasantly surprising way that Dom’s past catches up with him is in the return of Han, who was last seen in the sixth entry into the franchise but technically killed in the timeline bending third movie, Tokyo Drift.

However, as we see in the final 30 seconds of the trailer, Han is alive and well and reunited with the crew.

Fast and Furious 9 will see the return of franchise lead Vin Diesel, along with franchise regulars Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel and Sung Kang, with Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron slated to make a return, and John Cena making his franchise debut.

Fast and Furious 9 races into theaters on May 22.
