Tiger King draws huge ratings on Netflix
As crazy as it may seem, Tiger King has become one of Netflix’s biggest shows –comparable to the success of Stranger Things.
According to Nielsen estimates, Tiger King reached 34.3 unique viewers in the U.S. within the first 10 days of its release — as reported by Variety.
These numbers mean that the release of Tiger King topped mega Netflix hit Stranger Things season 2 which had 31.2 million unique viewers in its first 10 days. It was also close to Stranger Things season 3 which had 36.3 million unique viewers over a 10-day span.
Tiger King pulled in an audience of 19 million U.S. viewers on an average per-minute basis from March 20-29. That also beats out Stranger Things season 2 which reported 17.5 million U.S. viewers on an average per-minute basis and nearly matched Stranger Things season 3 which had 20.5. million U.S. viewers.
Interestingly, the show premiered with relatively humble numbers. It drew in an average minute audience of 280,000 U.S. viewers and reached 741,000 unique viewers on its first day according to Nielsen. However, buzz quickly built for the show and the daily average minute audiences jumped to over one million by day three, two million by day seven, and four million by day nine.
Tiger King was also the number one most tweeted about TV show from March 20-29 according to Nielsen, with 1.8 million total organic interactions (nonpaid). According to Netflix, the series has remained the most popular title overall in the U.S. over the past two weeks. They have not issued their own viewing numbers for the show to date, as the streaming service is usually selective in releasing numbers on titles.
