America’s Next Top Model star Tyra Banks was dragged by the internet after a controversial clip from the show started to circulate.
Many of Tyra Bank’s infamous moments on America’s Next Top Model over the years are still looked back on to this day. But not always with positive reactions, as seen in the latest wave of backlash.
A clip from 2006 of Tyra Banks confronting a contestant for not wanting to close the gap in her teeth resurfaced online recently. It’s not surprising that many were not happy with her comments towards the contestant, Dani Evans.
Tyra Banks responded to everyone’s comments with a tweet that stated:
“Been seeing the posts about the insensitivity of some past ANTM moments and I agree with you. Looking back, those were some really off choices. Appreciate your honest feedback and am sending so much love and virtual hugs.❤️”

Dani Evans herself, who actually won that season of America’s Next Top Model, also reacted to the wave of people bringing the moment back up again.
In a video she posted to Instagram, Evans explained some of the behind the scenes things that went on that fans didn’t get to see. Including the revelation that she wasn’t asked to close her gap by Tyra prior to the moment that was circulating.
She wasn’t upset by what Tyra said about her gap because she’d “heard it all before,” but she didn’t appreciate the way production and Tyra set her up to make an interesting episode. “What I was tight about is them trying to play me and making good for TV,” Evans explained in the video.
However, after seeing how people responded to the clip circulating she did want to address anyone that was affected by Tyra’s words.
“Reading the comments and understanding the weight that it created in other girls who saw that — this is why this post is being made because I want to address all of those young girls,” Evans said. “To all of my young queens that saw that episode that were truly affected by Tyra’s words — you’re beautiful.”
