‘Wonder Woman 1984’ premiere delayed by Warner Bros. until October

Warner Bros. has once again delayed the premiere dates of its tentpole superhero film Wonder Woman 1984, along with other blockbuster films like Tenet and Godzilla vs. Kong.

Wonder Woman 1984 was initially scheduled to be released on Dec. 13, 2019, then was moved up to November 1st, 2019. Then, the film was pushed back to June 5, 2020, with producer Charles Roven stating that it could use the extra post-production time.

Wonder Woman 1984 likely would have kept that date had it not been for the coronavirus pandemic. Due to all movie theaters worldwide shutdown, Warner Bros. decided to move the superhero tentpole film’s opening date to August 14, 2020.

However, with coronavirus cases still on the rise in many states, Warner Bros. has once again pushed back the premiere date of the highly-anticipated superhero sequel to Oct. 2, 2020.

This will mark the sixth overall time that Wonder Woman 1984 has been pushed back, and the second time it has moved its date due to the coronavirus.

The new film will feature Gal Gadot and Chris Pine reprising their roles as Diana and Steve Trevor, along with newcomers Kristen Wiig as archeologist Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah and Pedro Pascal as media entrepreneur Maxwell Lord.

In addition to delaying Wonder Woman 1984, Warner Bros. also recently announced that it will be delaying Christopher Nolan’s upcoming sci-fi tentpole film Tenet. The blockbuster film will have its release date pushed back two weeks, from July 17 to July 31.

The shifting of Wonder Woman and Tenet has likewise shifted other major Warner Bros. films, with the monster movie event film moving from November 20 to May 21, 2020, Tom & Jerry moving from December 23 to March 5, 2021, The Witches moving from October 9th to a still undetermined date in 2021, and The Matrix 4 moving from May 21, 2021 to April 2, 2022.
